How to take restaurant orders on WhatsApp in Tanzania
By Abdul-Musawwir Khatri
Give diners a link and a QR code. They browse your menu in their phone browser, pick dine-in, pickup, or delivery, and the order arrives as a WhatsApp message on your number. You confirm, cook, and arrange payment the way you already do.
No app for the diner to install. No tablet for the kitchen to learn. The whole system is the WhatsApp number you already answer every day.
What is WhatsApp ordering?
Your menu lives on a page like bonyeza.app/yourname. A customer opens it by scanning a QR code, tapping a link in your WhatsApp status, or finding it on Google Maps. They add plates to a cart and press send. What lands in your WhatsApp is a structured order: items, quantities, table number or delivery address, name, and phone.
Set it up in an afternoon
Add your dishes with prices once. Print one QR code per table for dine-in, and put the same link on flyers and your status for regulars who order from home. Most kitchens take their first real order the same day they add the menu.
What it costs
Bonyeza starts free with 50 WhatsApp orders a month, enough to test on live tables. Starter is 25,000 TZS per month and Growth is 45,000 TZS per month, paid with mobile money. There are no fees on WhatsApp ordering, so you keep 100 percent of every sale. Delivery marketplaces typically take 15 to 30 percent per order. Full breakdown on the pricing page.
Where it breaks down
Be honest about the Friday rush. Orders arrive as messages, so someone has to watch the phone and confirm. When the kitchen is overwhelmed, pause ordering and set a prep time instead of promising ten-minute food you cannot make. The pause button exists for exactly this reason.
Payment stays manual too: cash, mobile money, or bank, arranged in the chat. If you need automatic card capture at order time, this setup is not that. For most Tanzanian kitchens, a confirmed message plus mobile money on delivery is the whole payment flow.
Restaurant-specific setup
Table numbers ride along on every dine-in order so runners know where to go. Delivery addresses and pins come through on delivery orders, and Growth and Business plans can set flat-fee zones for regular areas. Details on the restaurants page.

- Do diners need to install an app?
- No. They open your link in any phone browser, browse the menu, and send the order on WhatsApp. Nothing to download for them or for your staff.
- How do table QR codes work?
- Print one QR code per table. Diners scan, pick their table number, and order. The order arrives in your WhatsApp with the table attached.

- Do you take a cut of orders?
- No. Plans are a flat monthly price paid with mobile money: free to start with 50 WhatsApp orders a month, Starter 25,000 TZS per month, Growth 45,000 TZS per month, Business custom. There are no fees on WhatsApp ordering.
